We have created a simple yet graceful infographic of European government debt as a percentage of GDP, from 1995 to 2011.

The infographic shows the gross sovereign debt of Eurozone countries, as a percentage of gross domestic product. The infographic is a little abstract. I tried to represent the data in a different way to usual, visualising how the debt increases – visually: flowering almost – over time. The chart almost hints at patterns in the data from country to country, but ultimately this is most likely just a chance interpretation of the data.

Looking at the data, the stand out nation is of course Greece. The Greek sovereign debt in 2011 is 165% of GDP – way above any other country.
